Simple Chicken Stuffed Karela Recipe – How to Cook Bitter Gourd

Karela is a bitter veggie that is not like by many people. Personally, I am also a peaky eater and one of those people who don’t like the bitter taste of karela but since I have tried this chicken stuffed karela recipe, I cannot just eat only but I love the taste. Karela is a beneficial vegetable and important for health so, whenever it is cooked most of the people are pressurized by their hommies to eat it even they cannot bear that bitter taste. So, I thought that if I added something with karela it might become eatable and that’s when this chicken stuffed karela recipe hit my mind and stomach. Honestly it is so yummy and it also minimized the bitter taste of karela so it became one of my favorite recipe.

Easy Homemade Chicken Stuffed Karela Recipe in Desi Style

Origin

Biological name of karela is “Momordica charantia”. Which is originated from eastern India and southern china. It is a native of tropical asia and this veggie is quite popular among Asian. Not only this veggie but chicken stuffed karela recipe is also quite popular and delicious cuisine. A bite of this cuisine which develops of taste of chicken along with slight bitterness when chewed gives a great sensation.

How to Make Chicken Stuffed Karela Recipe

Moving on how to make this karela recipe you will need to understand first that, Our recipe is divided into two major parts. First is the making of chicken and second is frying of stuffed karela along with making of gravy for it, so we will divide our ingredients and cooking process accordingly. So, Lets Start:-

For chicken

Ingredients:
  • 500 gm boneless chicken
  • 2 tbs of oil
  • 1 medium size onion
  • 6 pcs of garlic
  • 1 small piece of ginger
  • 1/2 tbs of turmeric (haldi)
  • 1/2 tbs of salt
  • 1 tbs of red chilli
  • 1 tbs cumin (zera)
  • 1/2 table spoon mix masala

Note: Make a paste of ginger and garlic using mortar and pestle and then use half of the paste for chicken while the rest is used for gravy of our cuisine.

 Cooking Process:       

 This is our cooking process for spicing up and making chicken.

  1. Firstly, Boil the chicken.
  2. Take a frying pan, place it over stove and pour the given amount of oil in the pan.
  3. Let the oil heat up, once the oil is hot enough then put the chopped onion in it and let the onion brown.
  4. Once the onion is brown place the mentioned amount of ginger and garlic paste in the pan.
  5. Once the paste acquires brownish appearance and start to spread their special aroma then add all of the above mentioned spices and mix it up well.
  6. Now lower the flame and add half glass of water from time to time in masala being formed.
  7. Now the water will soon evaporate leaving the thick masala gravy in the pan.
  8. Slice the boiled chicken in very small pieces to make it look nearly like qeema.
  9. Now add in the boiled boneless chicken in the masala gravy.
  10. Mix it up gently so that all masala is mixed in chicken and let it be cooked for about 3 minutes for the best taste.

For karela:

Ingredients: 

For frying the karela and making the gravy, we will require these following ingredients:

  • 500gm Karela (Bitter Gourd)
  • 125 gm of oil
  • 1 medium size onion
  • Half paste of ginger and garlic
  • 2 green chilli
  • 1 medium size tomato
  • 1/2 glass of water
  • 1 tbs red chillli
  • 1 tbs of salt
  • 1 tbs mix masala
  • 1/2 tbs of turmeric (haldi)
  • 1/2 tbs cumin (zera)

Cooking Process:

  1. Firstly, For frying the karela, we remove the white pith inside karela and place a single cut in middle vertically. when our spiced chicken is a bit cold then stuff the karela with the chicken and wrap it up with a thread.
  2. Now, take a deep pot and place 125 gm of oil in it and fry the stuffed karela in it until they are brown. After brownish color just take it out and place it in an empty plate.
  3. Place the chopped onion in the left oil and let it brown.
  4. Now place the paste of ginger and garlic in it and wait for it to brown, when they spread their aroma then add the mentioned masalas.
  5. Add up small amount of water in our masalas so that they dissolve and are prevented from burning.
  6. Put the chopped tomato in the gravy being formed.
  7. Now put the white pith that we removed from karela in the gravy and broil it.
  8. When its fully broiled then add the fried stuffed karelas in the gravy and mix them gently and steam it over low flame for about 10 minutes and that’s it your cuisine is ready. Enjoy this amazing and tasty chicken stuffed karela recipe.

Serving suggestions

For the serving suggestions, you can either normally place it in plate, cut cucumber with it and eat with rotis or paratha But if you want to serve it in front of guests or just want to serve it in a special way then, place the stuffed karela recipe in a plate and place the gravy over it and add the coriander (dhania) and slice green chillis on top of it and serve it with chapatti or paratha along with desi green chatni which elevate the taste of your cuisine.

You can also serve or eat this cuisine in a western way without any chapatti and with fork and knife only. This special karela recipe will make your guests and your homies loose all of their senses from just a bite and of course I mean it in a good way.
